Working with Carmin was an absolute dream - they took my (very) basic concept and came up with a beautiful composition of plant friends that I literally couldn't be happier with! The level of detail and care that Carmin puts into their work was evident from the moment I reached out, and since this tattoo in particular holds a lot of meaning for me it was important to me to find someone that would be able to honour that. I truly don’t think I could have picked a better artist than Carmin to bring it to life! The tattoo I received from Carmin remains one of the most powerful tattoos I have. I view things in my life sometimes as before the tattoo, and after: it was a spell for feeling at home in my body, a key part of alleviating gender dysphoria for me. The rose on my chest was flash that I chose, but it felt like it was still custom-created for me somehow. Carmin explained to me that a rose normally “should” have 5 petioles per leaf, but that this specimen that they had drawn from life had 8, a beautiful mutation that acted as a metaphor for biological and gender diversity. Having it on my chest moving up my throat, I feel like the mutated rose greets the world with me. It protects me with its thorns, and invites the brave in with its beauty, and nourishes with its fruits. The experience of being tattooed by Carmin was also beautiful; I felt very safe and seen by them, and they had a gentle hand and checked in with me often about pain. The experience was incredible and I intend to get tattooed again by them as soon as its possible!
